I like the moment
the obvious option dies.
I work out the structure before I pick a side: the model, the money, the rules, the tech. Do that in the right room and the obvious option dies while a better one is still possible.
I have been given a lot of those rooms. A market that taught me to close. A school that taught me how value is built. A small Republic that let me design an institution for a country. Founders who trusted me with their raise. I am grateful to every one of them.
Insurance first. Aon, Willis, Howden, Lloyd’s. You either closed or you left. I closed.
The suit. The walk to the underwriters, at Lloyd’s and at the insurers. The meetings face to face, the negotiation across the table until the deal was done, and the pub in the evening, where the people behind the deals became people you knew. It was the last market in the world still run by people, in person. It has been an honour to grow up inside it.
Then Bayes, under Charles Baden-Fuller: how value is actually built, not how it is presented. I still read every business the way that school taught me.
Parliament asked me to turn Techno Science Park San Marino–Italia into something a country could use. My answer was to write the rule before building the park. I designed the Republic of San Marino Innovation Institute, built it, and ran it as Executive Chairman until 2020. In 2019 the Republic adopted the decrees we had drafted, digital assets first. The institute certified real innovation, and a company had to earn that certificate. VeChain signed first. Others followed, and I represented the Republic with central banks, the EU and the OECD.
Parliament, the ministries, the presentations to the Finance Commission, the diplomatic meetings, the due diligence of international institutions, the politics and the debates. A complex machine to navigate, and bitcoin and blockchain were the hottest topic in it. Making a law that added value, and that most people understood and wanted, took all my attention and everything I could give.
Few people are asked to design an institution for a country. It was an honour to serve people rather than a corporate agenda, and it is still the experience I trust when the counterpart is a state, a board, or a room that has already decided the wrong thing.
After San Marino I took those human and technical skills into the private game. A digital-asset research team that could build, and could not yet raise a fund on its name alone: I designed the co-investment structure that made the fund possible, and stayed two years as venture partner. Then Public Pressure, Web3 music and culture, which I founded and raised for; the Web3 Music Association, which I chaired; and a number of blockchain projects where I stood beside the founders.
I like working where the greatest talents in the world gather. For years that was blockchain. Today it is AI, and that is where I built Tyche.Black.
Tyche.Black is the firm I wanted, and the one I now give myself to. An AI-native strategic design consultancy that also builds: we advise, and where we build beside a founder we take our fee in shares.
Giulia Maresca and I are its two partners, and every decision turns on two questions. Giulia reads whether anyone will want it. I read whether it will pay.
I built the systems we use at the firm, so the machine does the hours and we keep the judgement. I still like taking a problem apart more than I like announcing it.
Tyche.BlackI am glad to be alive at this moment. We are building superintelligence, and I believe it can take us to abundance and to equality, and help solve the hardest problems the world has. That is what gives us purpose.
It will not happen by itself. It depends on who frames the questions, who owns the systems, and whether judgement keeps pace with what the machines can do. These essays are where I work that out: agents as the new interface, money that machines can use, and value moving from execution to judgement, ownership and relationships.
